According to National Safety Council of USA, about 1.6 million accidents occur in America while texting and/or seeing a text while driving. 11 teenagers are dying each day, on average, because of this! This texting and driving is 6 times more dangerous than drinking and driving. Every one in four accidents in USA take place due to the drivers’ cell phone use during driving. (USA Today, 2018)
Dr. Kimberly Young, founder of Center for Internet Addiction, says- this is the proof that smartphone is addictive. Because the texts that they are risking their lives for, are not really as important that they cannot see after few minutes. But no, they have to see it right away! All they need is the sound of the message or notification and they would grab their phone. Sometimes, there even aren’t any kind of notifications, they just take it anyway and start scrolling.
